Check out our Saint Katharine Drexel Explained Poster! Adorn a locker, classroom, dorm room, or workspace with this beautiful, high-quality, glossy poster!

This Saint grew up in one of the most socially prominent families, her father owning a banking empire. Despite their great wealth, the Drexels raised their children very piously, making sure that the entire family prayed together every night. From her stepmother, Catherine (the Saint's name at the time) learned how to minister to the poor from their home. From this she developed a great love for Native and African Americans. After her parents died, Catherine and her sisters were left with an enormous wealth, but Catherine was also left with a desire for the religious life. Despite initial opposition by her Bishop, Catherine began an order called "The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament For Indians and Colored People," becoming Sister Mary Katharine Drexel. The Ku Klux Klan threatened Sr. Katharine for a while, that is, until God destroyed several of the KKK buildings with a tornado the night they threatened the humble handmaid. After opening many convents, schools, and missions around the States, St. Katharine died at almost 100 years of age. St. Katharine, please pray for us that we may not be tempted by wealth and may follow God's calling in our lives, that we may do His will at each moment of our lives.
