This Saint was born in 1568 in Italy to a royal family - meaning that he was a prince and, as the first-born, the one who was to inherit his father's title and legacy. Young Aloysius, however, did not want earthly glory and was determined to become a Jesuit. From a young age, he was already seeking solitude to pray, partaking in mortification, and pursuing God's will. After much difficulty with his father, Aloysius was finally allowed to enter the Jesuits, where many were edified by his words about God. This young saint frequently ministered to the poor and sick, from who he contracted the plague, leading to his passing on into Heaven. St. Aloysius is patron of the Christian youth and young students.
