These alabaster bookends feature St. Antony of Padua, the Franciscan servant of the child Jesus and patron of finding lost things. Keeping heavy books in line, these bookends both organize and decorate your home. They make the perfect personal gift for the Anthony or Tony in your family, or for anyone who has a devotion to this beloved saint.
St. Anthony is especially known for his passionate yet loving preaching to the poor and all who needed instruction. His joyful ministry combated the many heresies that arose in his time and threatened to draw people from the faith. St. Anthony's strong love for Jesus and a desire to give that love to others gave him strength through his life.
The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish.
Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep at the base.
Text reads:
"O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms, and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen."
