In this famous icon Christ is depicted from the waist up, holding an open Gospel in his left hand and making a gesture of blessing with his right. Through the invitation of the open gospel Christ seems to be saying 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me' (Matt. 11: 28-30).
